Planinarski dom Javorije
The first Municipality of Vares based Mountain Climbing Society called “Kosmos” was formed in 1926. The most famous excursion (hiking) areas visited by the Vares mountaineers were Perun Mountain and Krecane (Slaking Lime Pits), where Mountain Climbing houses were constructed.
The Perun Mountain Climbing house was burned down at the beginning of Second World War . After Second World War, the newly restored Mountain Climbing Society called "Perun" Vares was organized. In August 1952, Perun Mountain Climbing Society had built a new and even by today’s building code standards, the beautiful and functional Mountaineer’s House called “Javorje”.
For extraordinary results in developing mountain climbing and skiing the Mountaineer Society "Perun" had received the highest municipal, regional, state and federal recognitions, while several of its members had received the prestigious Golden Medal Awards.
In that spirit of Perun Society’s success, the first Skiing School was introduced in 1978.
In 1982, the first Ski Lift was built on the slopes of the Perun Mountain.
And finally, in 1985, the second Ski Lift was constructed at Ponikve slopes, located north of Vares, and just beneath the village of Javornik.
